Monmouth Town U9s first league game of 2019-20 season

On a beautifully sunny day down in Abertillery, we saw our young girls play their first league game EVER. This is the first year we've been able to put a girls side together. It is fair to say our girls came in with a bang.

As part of the format, we got to play 3 other teams.

In the first game, the girls were extremely strong against a very good side. The girls didn't concede a goal and their tackling and hunger for the ball meant they came away easy winners with the opposition team's goalie making several important saves.

The second game was a very one-sided affair with our girls staying in formation and their passing in the final quarter of the pitch has really progressed. It was this game where Myla earned the Captain of the week (aka Jaffa Cake awards). She had been upset about not scoring a goal in the first game but on sitting down and talking about how important it was to pass to others she put in a Captains performance. She defended and tackled and selflessly pass the ball to our attackers.

There were many great interplays between the girls but there was a worked corner from Mia with Robyn running into the box to slot it away calmly into the bottom left corner. At which point the opposition coaches declared they were dealing with a team in a different league.

The third, although a comfortable win was difficult. The opposition bunched up and we found it hard to pass around them. Even still it was a fantastic effort with Myla (Goalie in the final game) have very little work to do.

The girls have such a great team spirit and are extremely friendly towards each other. Their eagerness to play and to want to get on the pitch is what makes this team such a good team to keep an eye on.

At the end of the day, the girls huddled together eating cupcakes from Robyn's birthday with them all reluctant to go home.

A Fantastic effort today well done all of the girls.

I also feel know I know pretty much all of the back roads of the Heads of the Valleys after that outing!
